A selective peripheral H1 blocker fexofenadine is classified as a second-generation antihistamine as it is less able to pass the blood-brain barrier. Fexofenadine helps in the binding of peripheral H1 – receptors in the gastrointestinal (GI) tract, blood vessels & bronchial smooth muscle. It helps in preventing the binding of histamine to peripheral H1 – receptors to prevent their activation.
